The future of our planet: are governments doing enough?

Many of us are becoming more and more worried about climate change. How will global warming affect the future of our whole planet? Does the planet even have a future? There are also other questions to which people want an answer. The questions are, “Why are governments so slow to react to the crisis? Why are they doing nothing to reduce the damage?” This damage could result in the disappearance of our own species!  Unfortunately, these are not simple questions, and it’s not easy to give simple answers. Not all issues can be expressed in phrases like “Ban plastic” or “Stop burning fossil fuels now!” The situation is incredibly complicated because our planet, its economies, and its financial systems all depend on each other. Our planet is, in many ways, just a global village. And since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, whether we make cars in Germany, steel in China, or computer parts in India, we have used fossil fuels to power our factories around the world.  If the governments of the world stopped making products, vehicles, plastics, metals, and so on, what would happen? If our factories stopped burning fossil fuels, what would the result be? Well, first of all, millions of people would immediately become unemployed. They would have no money to pay for food and bills. Transportation systems, banks, and the whole economy of many countries would probably stop working, and this would have terrible consequences for millions of people.  World governments have to use technology to solve the problems we are facing. They should find a way to build new energy systems that don’t use fossil fuels. Then we can continue with our way of life, but without destroying the planet. There can be little doubt, though, that they do need to do much more and much faster.
