Haemoglobin has a much greater affinity to bind with carbon monoxide than with oxygen. The pilot will suffer

from carbon monoxide poisoning and have difficulties in transporting oxygen around the body.

Carbon monoxide destroys the heamoglobin within red blood cells, so the pilot's body will have trouble

transporting oxygen in the blood.

Carbon monoxide is toxic to the nervous syetam and will cause brain damage.

Carbon monoxide inhalation causes a build up of carbonic acid in the blood, leading to hyperventilation and

dizziness. These symptoms will clear, so it does not represent a serious threat to the pilot.
