A solid 30x30mm square beam with a length L=1.2 m is supported by a pin and roller. There is a 0.4mm gap between the beam and an adjacent rigid wall when the temperature is 10°C.

b) if the temperature is raised to 45°C and with the wall now in place as shown in the figure above, calculate the resulting axial force in the beam in kN?   Indicate a  compressive force with a  negative value.  Do NOT include any units.

Assume Est = 200GPa, αst = 12x10-6/ºC. 

When calculating this value you MUST keep all the decimal places in your calculator for the answer to the previous question.
