A total positive charge is uniformly distributed on the surface of a spherical

thin shell (the cross section of the shell is shown as the black circle in

Figure 1). The red circle, which is concentric with the black circle, is the

cross section of a spherical Gaussian surface (GS). The spherical GS can be

placed inside or outside the spherical thin shell.
