The Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg is a prime example of urban regeneration. 

Once run-down and economically neglected, the area was redeveloped through public–private partnerships that transformed abandoned buildings into vibrant mixed-use spaces such as art galleries, restaurants, small businesses and residential apartments. This regeneration attracted both local and international tourists, stimulated entrepreneurship and created employment opportunities. The resulting structural changes to the local economy helped restore the area’s economic viability, aligning with the definition of “regeneration”.
