Text excerpt: extract from the introduction of a GP report:
Animation, the cornerstone of multimedia arts, is defined as a dynamic medium in which storytellers and artists bring images and characters to life through sequential visual art (1). France is the third largest animation hub in the world behind Japan and the United States (2). France excels in animation productions thanks a world-renowned technical expertise and the French creative flair (3). France's international reputation is the result of the emergence of cities like Annecy and Angoulême. These cities specialize in animation productions and also collaborate with international animation studios (4).
Among the key French animation studios, there are several internationally recognized, major players; Xilam Animation (Oggy and the Cockroaches), Fortiche Production (Arcane), or Illumination Mac Guff (Despicable Me) (5). However, this sector is at the heart of major upheavals partly because of growing production costs (6) but also because of changing consumption patterns (7). However, there is another subject that fascinates, worries, and raises countless questions for most sectors, including French animation studios: artificial intelligence (AI) (8).
Appearing in the 1950s and then aiming to reproduce cognitive patterns, AI today refers to the intelligence demonstrated by machines or any other software or technology when they perform a task (9). When we talk about AI in the animation sector today, we refer to general artificial intelligence (general AI). This general AI is a subset of Deep Learning (DL), itself a subset of Machine Learning (ML), in turn a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI) (10).
