The METAR surface wind is measured by an anemometer at a height of 10 m and averaged over 10 minutes, but for the ATIS aerodrome controller the wind is measured at a height of 33 m and averaged over 5 minutes.

All aerodromes average their reported surface wind over 2 minutes, but it is measured by an anemometer at 10m above around level for METARs and 6 m above around level for the ATIS and aerodrome controller.

All aerodromes report the surface wind obtained from an anemometer at a height of 4 ft above ground level, but METAR surface wind are averaged over 10 minutes and ATIS and aerodrome controller surface winds are averaged over 1 minute.

At larger aerodromes, the reported surface wind is measured by an anemometer at a height of 10 m and averaged over 2 minutes for the ATIS and the aerodrome controller but averaged over 10 minutes for the METAR.
