In-Person Assessment Requirements

Part A

Assessment Goals:

You will need to demonstrate:

        • a physical, working circuit that meets the requirements

          specified. 

        • a clear understanding of the circuit designed and how it works during the interview.

Design and build a circuit using:

        • MOSFETs for logical gates
        • push buttons for inputs
        • LEDs for outputs

that meets/implements the following requirements:

        • Input A is a push button
        • Input B is a push button
        • Output X is an LED that turns on when either Input A is pressed or Input B is not pressed
        • The LED current should fall in the range of 8-18mA.

You must:

      • power the circuit from your Arduino 5V pin
      • use jumper wires from your kit to build this circuit
      • follow circuit standards for wire color conventions
      • not use any software and have the functionality be built in hardware entirely
      • only use components provided in the kit
      • include a current probe point before each LED using a pair of header pins and jumper
      • use MOSFETs to enable the digital logic controlling the output

You should:

      • Understand how your circuit works and how the logical gates (AND, OR, NOT) function.

Part B

Assessment Goals:

You will need to demonstrate:

        • that you can use the kit multimeter to measure voltage and current in your circuit.

You should:

      • Practice using the kit multimeter to measure voltage and current.

Part C

Assessment Goals:

You will need to demonstrate:

        • that you can set up a digital storage oscilloscope for an unknown square waveform. You will need to

          know how to

          use the scale, measure and trigger functionality. You will be given two minutes to complete this

          task in front of an assessor.

You should:

      • Practice using the lab digital storage oscilloscope to make measurements and to display waveforms. It is

        recommended that you set up a square wave using the Function Generator to use as input to the DSO for

        practice

        purposes.

Part D

Assessment Goals:

You will need to demonstrate:

        • that you can draw a circuit diagram of your built circuit correctly (in-person), that meets all

          circuit diagram standards. You will be allowed to refer to your physical circuit when drawing this. You will be provided with the relevant symbols for reference.

You should:

      • Practice drawing your circuit on paper
      • Familiarise yourself with the circuit standards document

In-Person Assessment Requirements

You must bring:

      • your completed physical circuit.
      • writing material (ideally a pencil and an eraser).
      • your multimeter with probes.

At the assessment:

      • your assigned group and start time is listed on Moodle. Make sure you show up at the beginning of your

        timeslot.

      • queue quietly along the opposite wall to the doors. Leave a gap for any door or exit (i.e. do not block

        doors).

      • if we are running late and you need to go for some reason, make this known to us before leaving.
