It is an infection occurring in a patient during the process of care in the health care facility which was not present or incubation at the time of admission.

Considered if becomes evident less than 24 hours after hospital period.

Considered within 30 days of discharge following inpatient care.

Referred as nosocomial infection or hospital infection.
