Studies show that taking time to take a new course, gain a qualification or develop new skills is one of the best ways to beat stress and help us to feel calm and relaxed. For example, you could sign up for an evening class to learn how to cook or make furniture, or if you’d rather stay at home you could do a course online.

Maggie (43) from Cambridge tells us how she did it.

‘About five years ago, I started designing clothes for my friends. I had a really busy job in an office and creating my own clothes at the weekends really helped me relax. I created my own website and suddenly everybody wanted to buy my clothes! I had to quit my office job so that I could meet the demand and continue to make clothes. Now I do what I love every day. It’s stressful, but it’s good stress because I’m doing what I love!’
