lie down until the bleeding stops, then get up slowly and carefully

cover the wound with a sterile dressing and secure it with a bandage to control any bleeding 

use sterile gauze and take pain reliever like ibuprofen if necessary

elevate the limb and apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean dressing
