If a vertical point load, P3, shown in Figure 6, is applied at the end of the “mezzanine edge beam” (refer Figure 5), use a sketch to describe the loadpath it follows to arrive at the top of the strip footing assuming the structural configuration can be idealised as shown below. For the sketch, indicate the shape of the bending moment diagram in order to demonstrate load transfer via shear and bending (recognizing that the shear force is the slope of the bending moment diagram) and use arrows and “T” and “C” annotation to indicate the transfer of axial tension or axial compression forces respectively.
