Carol manages a small

team of sales personnel. She knows that it is important that she gives her team

a sense that they belong by having social events to spend quality time together.

She also knows they need to have the opportunity to feel successful, so she

sets up small challenges each week for the team to work towards important

goals. Lastly, she knows that it is important they feel they have control over

their environment, so she encourages her team to come up with their own unique pitches

for the products.  

Robert has been

noticing his team withdrawing a bit and not putting in as much effort after a bonus

was given out by the organization. Everyone received a 5% bonus at the end of

the year – including both his top performers who have really given the company

their all this year and those that are falling short of meeting expectations.

Velma has been feeling

unmotivated at work recently. She feels like no matter how hard she tries to

bring on a new client she isn’t ability to do so. Not only that, but even when

she has brought on new clients – there is no recognition of her effort or

success. If they do recognize this, it is just with a Starbucks gift card and

she doesn’t even like coffee.
