There is no one way of understanding reality.  To understand people’s experiences requires us as counsellors to “put ourselves in other people’s shoes” to understand what they are going through.

 There is no right or wrong in what clients tell us as counsellors.

People bring a sample of their life context to a counselling encounter, therefore counsellors need to listen to clients’ accounts of their lived experiences.

Counsellors, by virtue of their qualifications and experience, are experts on issues that their clients’ lived experiences, therefore are best placed to provide guidance to their clients.
