It fragmented many parts of South Africa and undermined traditional

authorities which made it easier for the Voortrekkers to occupy parts of

western South Africa.

It strengthened the authority of traditional leaders which meant

that they could more effectively oppose colonial rule.

It resulted in the death of Shaka Zulu as the Chief of the Zulu

tribe.

It explains why Lesotho,

eSwatini (Swaziland) and Botswana are not today part of the South African

state.
