The patient is intubated because of severe thoracic trauma when he suddenly

develops high fever with a sudden drop in oxygen saturation. A chest X-ray

reveals lung consolidation and a diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia

was made. A Gram stain of tracheal aspirate samples revealed neutrophils and Gram-negative

coccobacilli, which on culture were non-fermenters and oxidase negative.
