The problem occurred because we used single-precision floating point numbers. It would have worked OK if we'd used double-precision.

The problem is the result of using a mixture of floating point and integer numbers. If we had used floating point numbers throughout, the issues wouldn't have occurred.

This is a bug in Python. Languages like Matlab should be used instead for numerical calculations.

Floating point numbers are approximate and should never be tested only for equality.
