In class you will count the number of cells in a blood sample.  The formula to calculate the number of cells/ml is:

Image failed to load: Haemocytometer - cell counting formula.

If you had a blood sample and diluted 50 μl of your sample in 150 μl of white cell diluting fluid, and then counted the cells on a haemocytometer, counting:

  • 89 cells in square A
  • 102 cells in square B
  • 97 cells in square C
  • 99 cells in square D

What number of cells/ml do you have in your sample?  Report as a whole number, using standard notation (e.g. 4300 instead of 4.3 × 103).
