Some people remain asymptomatic carriers of bacterial meningitis, spreading the disease among healthy individuals. 

The body's immune system reacts to bacterial meningitis by bringing on fever and intense headaches. 

People cannot contract bacterial meningitis through kissing or sharing cigarettes, toothbrushes or utensils. 

In the worst cases, meningitis causes death within a month.
