landscape and bends, like a river, at strategic spots to optimize views of the

surrounding landscape

The scale and form complement the street and the adjacent buildings.

simple palette of materials of render and timber boarding is used but applied

in different formats creating a playful variety.

The range of materials, the choice of white render, black stained timber cladding, and either slate

or plain red roof tiles also reflects the materials used in the adjacent.... buildings

A clay block system was adopted which gives the houses added efficiencies and high-performance value.

The

positioning and orientation of the homes maximises the access to solar gain in

winter and prevents overheating in summer.

The sensitive yet robust copper-clad rectangular extension deftly negotiates a relationship with the neighbouring two-storey remains of the former factory by using the traditional roofing material.

The

design response is a contemporary rendition of a well-established and local

typology, the Norfolk-style barn.
