How many amino acids carry side chains that ionise?
What is the primary structure of a protein?
What dictates the tertiary structure of a protein?
True or False?
The changes in pH will not only affect the amino and carboxyl group but the side chains as well.
Which component determines the properties of an amino acid?
How many different "standard" amino acids occur as constituents of proteins?
With four different groups connected to the tetrahedral alpha carbon atom, alpha amino acids are chiral. This means alpha amino acids have two forms which are almost identical but are actually different molecules. Amino acids exist in one or the other of two mirror image forms called the L isomer and D isomer.
Which isomer is used in proteins?
Non-polar Amino Acids
These are hydrophobic. They like to interact with each other through van der Waals interactions. Due to their hydrophobicity, they don't want to form hydrogen bonds.
Which amino acids are non-polar?
