When measuring arterial pressure

using the auscultation method, systolic pressure is recorded when sounds first

appear while the cuff is being deflated.

When measuring arterial pressure

using the auscultation method, the sphygmomanometer cuff should be deflated

quickly to minimise the subject’s discomfort.

When measuring arterial pressure

using the palpation and auscultation methods, the subject should be seated

comfortably with the arm resting on the bench at heart level.

When measuring arterial pressure using the auscultation

method, the stethoscope is placed over the radial artery.

The sphygmomanometer cuff should

be positioned so that the rubber bladder within the cuff is placed on the medial

aspect of the arm.
