An Essay question is a free-response box where you write a longer answer, such as a paragraph, a list, or a full explanation. Unlike multiple-choice questions, these are not graded automatically by Moodle.

This type of question you will upload your hand written solution.

Practice, taking images of paper, emailing it to your UOW account, downloading it and uploading within the 15 minute time frame.

Ideally upload 1 pdf file with all your written calculations.

Follow the instructions given in the cover letter & below.

Uploading Your Handwritten Calculations

During this exam, you will be required to complete some calculations on paper, take a photo of your work using your phone, and upload the photo into the Moodle quiz.

To ensure academic integrity and to allow Proctorio to verify your workflow, you must follow the steps below:

1.       Ensure your Full name and student ID number is on each hand written page.

2.       Use your phone to take a clear photo of your handwritten calculations.

Make sure the entire page is visible and readable.

3.       Email the photo to yourself using your university email account.

This is the only approved method for transferring the photo to your computer. Do not use Google Drive, OneDrive, WhatsApp Web, AirDrop, USB transfer, or any shared cloud folders.

4.       Open your email in a new window on your computer.

Download the photo attachment to your desktop.

5.       Return to the Moodle quiz and upload the photo in the designated question.

Make sure the correct file is attached before submitting.

6.       You will be given an additional 15 minutes at the end of the exam.

This extra time is provided solely for taking the photo, emailing it to yourself, downloading it, and uploading it into Moodle. Please use this time carefully.

Gentle reminder, your screen and webcam activity are recorded throughout the entire exam. Any student found using this additional time to continue answering questions beyond the allocated 1.5 or 2‑hour exam duration may be subject to a malpractice review.

7.       Keep your phone visible in the webcam frame when taking the photo.

This helps Proctorio verify that the work is your own. Failure to follow these steps may result in delays, technical issues, or academic integrity concerns.

From your perspective as a student, a Numerical question looks just like a regular short-answer box. However, it is specifically designed to handle math and science answers more fairly than a text box would.

  • Check the instructions: Read if the question asks for a specific number of decimal places.
  • Don't use text: Only enter numbers and, if required, the unit. Do not type words like "about" or "roughly" unless specifically told to do so.
  • Units matter: Always look for a unit box or a mention of units in the question text to avoid losing easy points.

Below input your answer in MPa.

Your solution is 200 MPa.
