The students at Prince College were concerned about the scourge of human trafficking affecting both the college and the surrounding community. They wanted to educate the public and students about human trafficking and its prevention. The members of the Department of Student Support Committee (DSSC) at Prince College, together with the members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) took an initiative to raise awareness about this crime. They held a special meeting to discuss launching an awareness campaign against human trafficking. Participants were expected to propose strategies for preparing the campaign and suggest activities to educate students about the problem and how to protect themselves. Dr Komape, the Chairperson of the Department of Student Support Committee, three other committee members, including the Secretary, and three SRC members attended the meeting. No apologies were received. What would the minutes of such an agenda item look like?
The Chairperson, Dr Komape presented the agenda item on human trafficking. It was suggested that the Minister of Social Development, Ms Zandile Dioke, should be invited to the event as a guest speaker, with focus on the theme: “Protect a Child, Protect the Nation, Say No to Human Trafficking!”. SRC members from the neighbouring schools would be invited to the event. Local schools and the Department of Basic Education would be requested to include human trafficking topics in Social Sciences curricula. Different social media platforms would be used to raise awareness about human trafficking. Furthermore, college students could be encouraged to conduct research on the topic and publish papers to share information locally and globally. Prince College curriculum designers could also be requested to incorporate topics on human trafficking into the curriculum. The meeting supported all the proposed strategies for the human trafficking awareness campaign. Dr Komape informed participants that funds were available to support the event, including securing the guest speaker, providing refreshments, and the designing posters and flyers. A formal invitation would be sent to the Minister with all the necessary details.. All the suggestions were to be submitted to the College Management team for approval. 0%
