- Rialto Bridge

Task 3.2 – Analysis and comparison of two or more extracts from tourism and/or travelling texts
Please describe the register (Field, Tenor and Mode) of the following extracts and compare them.
EXTRACT 1
The arrival of COVID-19 has been viewed as a watershed moment. In terms of tourism, the unthinkable has happened. While previously the industry was grappling with concerns of overtourism, we suddenly have been catapulted into a collapse of the entire sector. This is because the tourism, hospitality and events sectors have been crippled by government efforts to curtail and control the pandemic. Borders have been shut, travel has been banned, social activities have been curtailed, and people have been told to stay in their homes. However, it is predictable that industries such as tourism will be keen to get back to business as usual and are seeking shares of government stimulus packages and interventions.
EXTRACT 2
Above the Atrium, and around the whole western arm of the inner church, runs an outer gallery. On this gallery, over the Main Portal of the outer and lower facade, stand Bronze Horses, forming a four magnificent quadriga, or team of four, for a chariot. What makes these horses so important is the fact that they help fix the date of various portions of the church. They are believed by some antiquaries to be Greek works of the school of Lysippus, but others hold that they are of Roman origin.
Task 4 – Open question
Discuss the concept of genre with specific reference to tourism and travelling writing.
