Food writing often combines factual information with sensory description. A recipe may explain exactly how an ingredient should be prepared, while a food review may focus on how a dish looks, feels and tastes. As a result, translators have to deal with both specialised terminology and highly subjective descriptions. A literal equivalent may accurately convey the dictionary meaning of a word but fail to create the same sensory impression. The translator therefore needs to consider both accuracy and naturalness.
