The question is based on information obtained from the Wildi Textbook, Chapter 16

An A.C. alternator is unique as the rotor is comprised of two types of windings.

The rotor features a set of squirrel cage windings that are positioned in the laminated steel core, close to the outer surface of the rotor. Just below those rotor bars, there are traditional field coils.

In order to avoid confusion with other motor types, the squirrel cage winding has a proper name which is the                   winding. This is to help differentiate the alternator from the squirrel cage motor.

Note: Fill in the blank by typing a one word answer in the field provided below, do not use numbers or special characters.

Use the following information to calculate the speed of rotation in RPM (revolutions per minute) required to produce a frequency of 50 Hz for an Australian Mining company importing Canadian generators to a remote mine site.

The generator has 4 poles, the required frequency is 50 Hz.

Use the formula found on page 930 of the Delmar's textbook, Unit 32.

Note: Type in your numerical answer in the field below, do not use letters or special characters.

The following question is based on information obtained from the Wildi textbook, Chapter 16.

Large synchronous generators have to be responsive to changes in current demand from the infinite bus. In order to maintain a stable voltage and minimize fluctuations in the alternators terminal output, utilities will use what type of exciter that will monitor voltage conditions and send control signals to increase or lower the excitation current feeding the alternator and automatically adjust the output voltage due to changing conditions.
