Jonathan Bradfield has been farming for 42 years and is currently the owner of Limestone Hill, outside Bathurst in the Eastern Cape. Jonathan farms mainly with pineapples together with his sons-in-law, Anton Ferreira and Albert van der Westhuizen. In 2008, Bradfield decided to branch out from the canning of pineapples into the drying of pineapples. The decision was based on adding additional value to the pineapple fruit. At the time, it was a new idea and very unorthodox. To test the viability of the product, Bradfield dried a few pineapples using his biltong dryer and offered the community some product samples to receive feedback. Considering the implementation of the dried pineapple business unit, Jonathan Bradfield demonstrated _____ managerial skills.

Netflix proved to be a disruptive organisation, which has likely contributed to its capability to transform and adapt to the digital world. Streaming began in 2007 for the business, and this meant that subscribers no longer needed to wait for DVDs to come through the mail. Netflix successfully implemented change management to meet the needs of the consumers who began to watch content online. “Netflix believes that great storytelling transcends borders,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s CEO, while speaking at a recent luncheon for technology-driven companies. Despite its very rapid internationalisation, Netflix implemented the same customer-centric model of operations, which had been key to its success in all its markets. Ted Sarandos attended the luncheon as a _______, which falls under the _______ managerial role.

To conserve electricity, Limestone Hill changed the drying process for the dried pineapple business unit in 2022. Instead of the initial electric dryers previously used, they now make use of wood-fired boilers, which heat an enclosed water system, in turn driving the radiators and circulating fans. This has brought about a significant reduction in their electricity usage. The wood used also releases lower carbon emissions and is sustainably sourced from neighbouring farms. With the change in drying processes, Limestone Hill followed a/n ____ corporate growth strategy.

Netflix proved to be a disruptive organisation, which has likely contributed to its capability to transform and adapt to the digital world. Netflix first started streaming in South Africa in 2016. With a diverse population and many cultures in South Africa, Netflix adjusted their algorithms to provide a wide variety of shows and movies that would suit most demographics and cultures. Decisions are taken by Mark Gavill, South Africa’s content engineer, and his team to ensure the most watched content is continued, with similar content being added. On a monthly basis, Gavill writes a detailed report of actions taken to the Chief Content Engineer of Netflix International, Mrs Samantha Greeves, to ensure the content being added is still in line with Netflix’s missions and goals, “to transcend through storytelling”. Each engineer in the different countries reports to Mrs Greeves. She is said to be an organised person, a very reliable and hard-working manager and is well respected by those who report to her. She strives to create team spirit and gives guidance as to what is expected of her employees. Although she encourages employees to work hard, she is always available to lend a helping hand should an employee have a work or personal crisis. According to Blake and Mouton’s leadership grid Mrs Greeves follows _______ management approach.

Jonathan Bradfield has been farming for 42 years and is currently the owner of Limestone Hill, outside Bathurst in the Eastern Cape. Jonathan farms mainly with pineapples together with his sons-in-law, Anton Ferreira and Albert van der Westhuizen. In 2006, Limestone Hill was nearly ruined when the toxic metal cadmium was found in a consignment of canned pineapples in Europe. A multi-national fertiliser distributor imported low-grade zinc-sulphate from Asia that contained high concentrations of cadmium and lead. It contaminated the local export of canned pineapple rings, and South Africa’s reputation as a pineapple producer was scarred. At the time, it was a catastrophe as no one knew where it was going to end. The problem was discovered in Switzerland while testing a batch of canned pineapples imported from South Africa. The entire shipment had to be returned as it could not be established which of the cans contained the toxic metal. This was a tremendous loss for Limestone Hill, as most of their annual produce was included in this shipment. In 2006, the use of Asian soil suppliers by the multi-national fertiliser distributor was a/n ____ for Limestone Hill.
